Leh Ladakh is one of the well-known destinations in India. It is also called “The Roof of the world” because it is famous for the top three highest motor-able mountain passes in the world. Tourists from all over the world visit here and are attracted by its incredible beauty. The earth covered with snow gives a magical experience of being in heaven. It has beautiful mountain passes, trekking routes, frozen rivers, glaciers, monasteries. Buddhism and Tibetan culture are followed by the people over here.
It is located in the northern region of India, in the Union Territory of Ladakh in the Trans Himalayan region. The nearest railway station is in Tawi which is 708 km away from Ladakh. One can hire bus or cab to reach Ladakh from the railway station and it would take at least 15 hours to reach Ladakh. The two main highway routes to reach Ladakh are from Manali, and Srinagar which ends in Leh. During the monsoon or early winter season, the Srinagar route is commonly open and between June and October, the Manali route is open.
The places that most of the people like to visit here are attractive landscapes, Himalaya’s beautiful mountains, fairs and festivals, monasteries, etc. The Buddhist monasteries are the most famous and attractive sites in Leh Ladakh.
The best time to visit Leh Ladakh is from May to September, when the weather is pleasant . All the passes that get covered in snow in winter are also opened in this season.
Summer starts in June and ends in September. it's the right time to explore the normal Buddhist and other monuments because the temperatures stay in the range of 20° to 24°C. it's also the best time to travel to the this beautiful place because it's that the sole season when all the passes are open.
Winter from November to February is extremely cold with frost bites and snowfall being a typical phenomenon, making it very inhospitable for tourists. However, snow lovers can enjoy a visit during this season. The minimum temperature comes right right down to -15˚C and maximum temperature remains below 5˚C.
The famous spots for river rafting in Leh Ladakh are the Zanskar river and the Indus river. River rafting in the chilled atmosphere gives a very different experience. June to October is the best period to do river rafting.
You can ride bikes on the small routes or the mountain passes. June to August is the best time to ride bikes.
Camel Safari can be enjoyed in the Diskit valley and the Hunder valley. Riding the camel in the cold desert is one of the best adventures in Leh Ladakh.
The famous trekking routes here are Nubra Valley, Markha Valley, Chadar, Indus Valley and Stok Kangri.
Jeeps can be used to travel to different places like Pangong Lake, Tsomoriri Lake, Pangong Lake, Nubra valley, Zanskar valley, and many more.
