Kalsubai Peak Trek is one of the popular treks to do in Sahyadris. It is the highest peak of Maharashtra with an altitude of 1646 meters or 5400 feet which makes Kalsubai the 'Everest of Maharashtra'. Kalsubai peak lies in the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary in Sahyadris. Kalsubai being a thrilling trek commands a beautiful view of the famous Bhandardara Dam and surrounding mountains such as Harishchandragad, Ratangad, Alang Madan Kulang, etc. from the summit. The sunrise from the top is magnificent which makes it the most wish-listed trek in Sahyadris.

Kalsubai History

A girl named Kalsu was adopted by Shinde of Bari village from Khade of a nearby village. Kalsu was made to do household chores which were against her conditions. One day she left their house and climbed the mountain behind the village and stayed there until death. Kalsubai temple was made as a tribute to Kalsu.as a result people started worshipping her as a local deity there.

By train - Kasara is the nearest local railway station for Mumbai and Pune people and Igatpuri station for Nashik people. There are local jeeps outside the station available which will drop you till base village Bari.
